Role of the parish council

  • To give views, on behalf of the community, on planning applications and other proposals that affect the parish
  • To undertake projects and schemes that benefit local residents
  • To work in partnership with other bodies to achieve benefits for the parish To alert relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be undertaken
  • To help the other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities.

Aims and Objectives of the Parish Council

Aims
  • To provide effective, efficient, transparent and accountable local government for the parish, achieving best value.
  • To provide a democratic representational voice for the Parish and to give residents the opportunity to influence the future of the village.
  • To work to improve the village environment.
 
Objectives 2017 - 2020
  • To raise the profile of the Parish Council so that it communicates well with all groups and residents in the Parish and contribute to uniting the Parish.  This includes developing the Council’s website, with promotion of an open dialogue with residents to understand their needs and to inform them of the Council’s role and intentions.
  • To understand and communicate the views, needs and aspirations of residents and businesses to statutory and non-governmental bodies as required.
  • To respond to planning applications and other statutory consultations on time, ensuring that recommendations made to the local authority adhere to the village plan, any statutory regulations, and the interests of the community.
  • To support the work of village voluntary organisations through grants and practical support.
  • To ensure the Council is represented at all ward and county organisations relating to our parish or rural affairs so that we are well informed and able to represent parish needs and concerns.
  • To develop closer ties and collaboration with other organisations and Parish Councils with whom we have similar interests to help to achieve best practice and where possible share ideas and resources.
  • To undertake and actively promote training for the Clerk and councillors with a view to the whole organisation having the best possible understanding and appreciation of its role for the community.
